Generosity in God’s People

♕ Today's Promise: "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38

Dear Brides, our life should be about giving to others and to follow the Lords lead in doing so. As we follow His example, we are to give without expecting anything in return. God gave us His only son because He loves us so much, and that Son died on a cross for us. It sets a model that generosity in God's people should be sacrificial.

Giving was always something very hard for me. I never really wanted to give anything because I thought that I would lack. I also didn't want to give because I wanted people to earn or deserve it. Now i know that the Lord wants giving to be a sort of passion of ours.

There is a part in this book that caught me off guard and really caught my attention. It is when she speaks about the fortune cookie that she read, saved and believed that the Lord had sent it as a message to her.

This really began to sink in and convict me of maybe living by the law still because when I first read what she had done with this fortune cookie, my thought was "isn't that wrong?". Then she goes on to explain how the Lord doesn't care about being religious and that that was His problem with the churches in Revelation. They were trying to live by the law and impress with their "good works". That really made me think and focus on what I was thinking and doing and going back to reading those passages over and over again until I REALLY understood what they were saying.

Recently someone said something to me and it was like I was a robot trying to perform, trying to impress by not reacting and show that I was okay. They then proceeded to tell me that I needed to stop and that they know that I am human and that I am not invincible. That they know in their heart that they have done things that hurt me and that it is okay to feel that way. I was really shocked when they said this but it also made me open my eyes to stop trying to perform.

The author also mentions that most people are okay with giving but not receiving. That is true for me also. I feel uncomfortable sometimes when someone wants to just give me something. That is probably because of the way i viewed giving in the first place, thinking that people had to earn or deserve it. I am learning that we can also be blessed by others and it is the Lord who is also doing it through others.

Dear Brides, In this chapter ["Giving Frenzy"] the Lord wants giving to be a passion of ours. Giving big things, little things, time, money, and many of our possessions. Giving to family, friends, enemies, and strangers.

"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38
